The seminar provides an overview of directors disqualification on grounds of unfitness under Article 9 of the Company Directors Disqualification (Northern Ireland) Order 2002 (as amended by the Rating (Coronavirus) and Directors Disqualification (Dissolved Companies) Act 2021); examines the court’s application of the statutory framework; highlights recent case law; discusses recent trends linked to misuse of Government-backed Covid loans (in particular the Bounce Back Loan Scheme); and explores potential defences to disqualification proceedings.

The session will be delivered by Gemma Jackson, Senior Solicitor, Napier Solicitors, Belfast.  

Gemma has over 14 years’ experience as an insolvency and commercial litigation solicitor. She qualified as a solicitor in England in 2010 and practised as an insolvency solicitor at one of the UK’s top 100 law firms for 7 years before undertaking a non-practising role as a Senior Insolvency Consultant for HM Revenue & Customs.  Gemma joined Napiers in 2019 and advises a broad range of clients on insolvency and commercial litigation matters. She also tutors the Insolvency module at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies.
