About the Law Society

We independently discipline, educate, and regulate solicitors

The Law Society of Northern Ireland was established in 1922, when a Royal Charter was granted to solicitors in Northern Ireland to permit the setting up of the Incorporated Law Society of Northern Ireland.

We regulate solicitor education, finances, conduct, and discipline to uphold independence, ethics, and high-quality service for the public.

The Writ

Our very own digital magazine

The Writ is the in-house magazine of the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

Careers in Any Direction: In our Spring 2026 issue we speak to solicitors from a broad range of roles about their chosen sector, their paths to getting there, and how they find balance in the busyness.

This 250th issue of The Writ along with previous editions can all be read free online.

The Law Society of Northern Ireland is committed to championing diversity, inclusion and social mobility in the legal profession.
