The Law Society of Northern Ireland launched its Sustainability Strategy, setting out a roadmap towards a more sustainable future for the Society and the solicitor profession in 2022.
The Strategy, led by the Society’s Climate Justice Group builds on the Climate Change Resolution, published in October 2022 and outlines the steps the Law Society will make to reduce its environmental impact and how it aims to support its members to do the same.
The Strategy contains 24 actions across 4 themes:
- Sustainable Workplace – undertaking initiatives targeted at the operations in Law Society House and using learning to encourage and support members to work more sustainably.
- Stakeholder Engagement – working proactively to develop links and relationships with key stakeholders to promote members’ interests on climate issues.
- Training and Development – supporting members by providing training and tools to enhance skills and knowledge to tackle climate issues.
- Climate Justice – empowering members to deal with and promote climate justice matters and seeking to influence policy and legislative reform in this area.
A key element of the Strategy is direct training and support for Law Society members. With this in mind, the Society has continued to offer a number of CPD sessions for members.
