Job Details
This role presents an opportunity to for an experienced solicitor to assess the appropriate level of fees charged to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in this area.
You will be required to attend the Law Society two to three times per year to participate on a Panel of three.
Your role will be to independently assess the application and determine the reasonableness of the professional fee charged. If all Panel members agree to reduce the professional fee the Panel will decide how much that lower fee should be. The Panel are not permitted to increase the bill.
Applications should be submitted via the Remuneration or Solicitor Complaints Panel Application Form by Friday 30 May 2025.
The Candidate – Criteria
- You must be a qualified solicitor with 7 years plus PQE.
- You must be a practising solicitor and hold a current Practising Certificate.
- Candidates must possess sound judgement with the ability to assess files with impartiality.
- Candidates must demonstrate experience of analysing complex issues before arriving at clear assessments.
- Candidates must have extensive experience in preparing Bills of Costs and practising in at least one of the following areas of practice:
- Administration of Estates/ Probate
- Conveyancing
- Pre-proceedings Litigation
- Pre-proceedings Matrimonial / Family Law
Remuneration
This post will be remunerated at a rate of £100 per file (plus VAT where applicable).
Reserve List
A reserve list may be retained by the Society for the purpose of filling vacancies on such panels as the Society may require from time-to-time. If you do not wish to remain on a reserve list, please indicate this in your application form.
