The Education Committee consists of up to fourteen members:
- seven Council Members and
- seven Co-optees (non-Council members who had volunteer to assist the Committee).
The Committee generally meets every five weeks with a break in the New Year.
It deals with policy and practical matters arising out of the education, training and admission of solicitors in Northern Ireland.
The Committee considers applications for waiver of the period of restricted practice, applications for admissions under the alternative route for those with special qualifications or experience and applications for admission from other jurisdictions including England and Wales, Ireland, Scotland and overseas.
It reviews applications for registration from prospective apprentices. It can review progress of apprentices throughout their apprenticeship. It considers applications from trainees to transfer to another Master. It considers applications for secondment of apprentices.
