Training objectives
- Assist understanding of Deaf culture
- Allow professionals to meet their obligations to provide equality in their services
- Deaf BSL users recognised as citizens: collectively equal in rights, duties and status to all the other groups in society
- Taster of basic Sign Language
An interpreter will be available on the day of the session.
Intended outcomes
At the end of the training, participants will be able to: -
1.Understanding how to improve access for deaf clients.
2.Gaining essential deaf awareness skills such as recognising and addressing communication barriers, understanding the importance of clear visual cues and knowing when and how to book a qualified interpreter.
3.Learning basic BSL to enhance communication.
The session will be delivered by Anthony Sinclair from Sign Source, Belfast.
