Appointment of County Court Judge in Northern Ireland

His Majesty the King has appointed Ms Natalie Pinkerton as a County Court Judge in Northern Ireland. 

 

The Judge was sworn into office before The Rt. Hon. Dame Siobhan Keegan, the Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, on Wednesday 18 March 2026.

The Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission (NIJAC) has responsibility for the selection of persons for recommendation for appointment to the judicial offices listed in Schedule 1 to the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002, as amended by the Northern Ireland Act 2009.

 

The office of County Court Judge falls within the list of statutory offices in the Schedule and therefore within the remit of NIJAC. Details of Appointee Ms Natalie Pinkerton was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2010 after graduating from the University of Ulster in 2007.

 

Since commencing practice Ms Pinkerton has specialised in Criminal law instructed primarily by the Public Prosecution Service. Ms Pinkerton has been instructed in a variety of cases including terrorist offending, organised crime, domestic violence and other violent and sexual offending against adults and children, including murder and rape.

 

Ms Pinkerton has appeared on behalf of the Public Prosecution Service in all tiers of Criminal Courts including the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Ms Pinkerton has also assisted the Bar of Northern Ireland’s Professional Conduct Committee in the prosecution of cases and by providing written advices.
