The Law Society of Northern Ireland hosted its largest ever Admission Ceremony, with 500 attendees, including 130 newly admitted solicitors, in attendance.
The newly admitted solicitors were joined by their Masters, family, and friends for the special event held at the Assembly Buildings in Belfast City Centre on Friday 21st February 2025.
The Ceremony is a popular and prominent event in the legal calendar reflected in the large numbers in attendance this year.
In keeping with tradition of the ceremony the Registrar of Solicitors, David A. Lavery CB presented the newly admitted solicitors to the Lady Chief Justice for Northern Ireland, Dame Siobhan Keegan and the Society’s President, Colin Mitchell.
Following the ceremony the Lady Chief Justice and the President took the opportunity to present the Solicitors Accounts Prize, for achieving first place in the Society’s Solicitors Accounts Course, to Christopher Swann.
In addition to those who qualified under the Society’s training programme, the Ceremony also welcomed, for the first time, those solicitors admitted under reciprocal arrangements. In attendance were 10 solicitors who were previously admitted in England and Wales or the Republic of Ireland.
Commenting on the admission of new solicitors the President of the Law Society, Colin Mitchell said:
“The Society’s annual Admission Ceremony marks a pivotal moment for each newly admitted solicitor and the exceptional turnout today only highlights the pride and honour that our next generation of solicitors have in being admitted as members of the solicitor profession in Northern Ireland, providing vital legal services and access to justice for their clients and the people in their community".
