The Law Society of Northern Ireland has officially launched a new strategic partnership with Carbonfit, designed to help the solicitor profession reduce emissions, cut energy costs, and futureproof their firms in a rapidly changing business environment.
A launch event, held at Law Society House, brought together members of the Society’s Climate Justice Group, the Law Society, and representatives from Carbonfit to mark this significant milestone in the Society’s sustainability journey.
Opening the event, Simon Chambers, Chair of the Climate Justice Group, outlined the background to the partnership and the work undertaken by the Group in advancing the Society’s sustainability objectives. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between the legal profession and expert partners in driving meaningful climate action and ensuring that sustainability remains a core part of the Society’s long-term strategy.
Ben Craig, Head of Partnerships & Business Development at Carbonfit, delivered the keynote address, outlining the Society’s recent achievements through Carbonfit’s audit and green energy procurement exercise. Through this work, LSNI has already achieved:
30% reduction in electricity costs
20% reduction in gas costs
100% elimination of electricity-related emissions, saving over 35 tonnes of CO₂e annually
Closing the event, President Colin Mitchell highlighted that the partnership reinforces the Society’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050, and shows how “climate responsibility and financial responsibility can go hand in hand.”
