British Sign Language - Deaf Equality
The aims of the training is to:
- Assist understanding of Deaf culture
- Allow professionals to meet their obligations to provide equality in their services
- Deaf BSL users recognised as citizens: collectively equal in rights, duties and status to all the other groups in society
- Taster of basic Sign Language
An interpreter will be available on the day of the session.
Outcomes
- Improved understanding of Deaf culture and communication needs.
- Increased awareness of barriers faced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in legal settings.
- Basic BSL skills learned for simple, effective communication.
- Greater confidence when interacting with Deaf clients and colleagues.
- Better knowledge of how to book and work with interpreters.
- Stronger commitment to accessibility and inclusive practice within the Law Society.
