British Sign Language - Deaf Equality

The aims of the training is to:

  • Assist understanding of Deaf culture
  • Allow professionals to meet their obligations to provide equality in their services
  • Deaf BSL users recognised as citizens: collectively equal in rights, duties and status to all the other groups in society
  • Taster of basic Sign Language 

 

An interpreter will be available on the day of the session.

Outcomes 

  • Improved understanding of Deaf culture and communication needs.
  • Increased awareness of barriers faced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in legal settings.
  • Basic BSL skills learned for simple, effective communication.
  • Greater confidence when interacting with Deaf clients and colleagues.
  • Better knowledge of how to book and work with interpreters.
  • Stronger commitment to accessibility and inclusive practice within the Law Society.
