Concussion in Personal Injury Claims: Lessons from Professional Sport

Concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), is frequently encountered in personal injury litigation. The absence of a definitive diagnostic test, together with the challenges of persistent post-concussion symptoms and establishing medical causation, makes these cases among the most complex in medico-legal practice.

Drawing on contemporary research, international consensus statements and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) diagnostic criteria, this session will provide a practical framework for assessing concussion, post-concussion syndrome and medical causation in personal injury claims.
