The Law Society of Northern Ireland has announced the first leadership appointments for its newly established Women’s Network. Claire McAleer will serve as Chair, with Naomi White as Secretary.
The Women’s Network marks a significant step in fostering support, advocacy, and professional development for women in the legal community. It is dedicated to inspiring, engaging, and collaborating with women across the legal profession. With a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, the network provides a platform for women to connect, share experiences, and drive meaningful change within the industry.

Claire McAleer, who returned to legal practice in 2022 after an eight-year break, has a background in supporting women, including roles in community work and the NI Rural Women’s Network. She is passionate about peer support and is eager to bring this ethos to the legal profession. She is particularly passionate about expanding opportunities for women and is keen on spearheading a Women Returners Pilot Programme. This initiative is designed to support women re-entering the legal profession after a career break, equipping them with the skills, confidence, and networks necessary to successfully reintegrate into the workplace.

Naomi White, a strong advocate for women’s rights in law, aims to amplify women’s voices and ensure their interests are well represented. Additionally, she is driving the Women in Law Leadership Programme, which aims to cultivate future female leaders within the profession. This programme will provide training, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities, enabling women to step into senior roles with confidence and capability.
Through various initiatives, events, and mentoring opportunities, the Women’s Network aims to empower female professionals, offering them the resources and support they need to thrive in their careers. The network champions gender equality and works to break down barriers that women may face in advancing within the legal sector.
By launching these programmes, the Women’s Network continues to solidify its commitment to advancing gender diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, ensuring that women at all stages of their careers have the support they need to succeed.
More on upcoming Women's Network events will be shared via the Member E-nformer and LinkedIn. Any members wanting to be involved in the network should contact policy@lawsoc-ni.org
